PTA Status

Part of the success of a PTA is making sure that your unit is properly following the procedures and rules that allow it to function as a NYS Registered not-for-profit group under the NYS PTA Umbrella. To accomplish this goal, each PTA Unit is responsible for certain documents, registrations, and filings in order to be in good standing:

To remain in good standing, your PTA must:
  • Be registered with the New York State PTA (Form A)
  • Be Insured and up-to-date on insurance payments
  • Have up-to-date Bylaws (renewed every 3 years)
  • Have filed the proper IRS Tax Return (Form 990)
  • Have paid for all Membership Cards, and returned those that are unpaid (by 5/31)
The below table shows each PTA and highlights any issues that might be outstanding for your PTA. If you are a member of your PTA's Executive Board, make sure that your board takes proper action to resolve any outstanding issues as quickly as you can. If you are a PTA member, even if you are not an Executive Board member, and you see your PTA on this list in red or yellow, make sure to remind your Executive Board to get these issues resolved!
